Welcome to Sylvan Lake Theatre

The Sylvan Lake Theatre was formed in June 2022 to launch the first Theatre Trail at the lake. Brand new plays and stories were created by local writers and storytellers and performed in “pop up” theatre locations along a trail. This four-day theatrical celebration of comedy, drama, and story attracted audiences from all over Alberta. It garnered huge support from the municipality, local businesses, media, and the Sylvan Lake community. Thirty people were vigorously involved as writers, actors, storytellers, directors, theatre crew and venue sponsors. The trail was performed 16 times to sold out audiences and was designated the Best Summer Event by the Reader’s Choice Awards (Sylvan Lake News).

Riding the high of its first success, the group formed a not-for-profit society and evolved into a year-round theatre with a focus on entertainment and learning. Training for actors, storytellers and playwrights is ongoing and ensures that the performing and literary arts communities continue to grow and have creative opportunities. Following the initial Theatre Trail was a season of productions. The dinner theatre comedy Fully Committed, Comedy Night Live featuring Improv Jelly became a monthly staple, another dinner theatre, this time an improvised musical starring The Key of I and before our season was complete the second Theatre Trail, this time funded entirely by the businesses of Sylvan Lake. Thank you to all our volunteers and over forty sponsors and donors that keep Sylvan Lake Theatre thriving!

We respectfully acknowledge that Sylvan Lake is situated on Treaty 6 territory, traditional lands of First Nations and Métis Peoples. We extend our appreciation for the opportunity to create, tell stories, perform and build inclusive community on this territory.
