Since 2022 the Sylvan Lake Theatre has been bringing people together for storytelling circles and workshops. Our storytellers have been hired to present at conferences, as well as special events for Christmas and Halloween. We collect stories year-round and especially Sylvan Lake themed stories that we can use for the annual Theatre Trail.
What we are looking for
We’d like the story to be true, connected to the town of Sylvan Lake and approximately 400-500 words. It should take about three minutes to read or tell. A story needs a beginning, middle and end with one main character that experiences something worth telling about. There may be other people and side plots that enrich the story. Sylvan stories do not have to be historic stories. It could have happened last century or last week!
The hardest thing in writing any story, especially a true and personal one, is that much has to be left out so that the story stands strong on its own and can be meaningful to all who will hear it.
