Sylvan Lake Theatre
The Creative Kids Drama Camps have been specifically designed by theatre professionals and certified teachers to ignite student’s passion for all things drama regardless of their previous experience. Our combination of activities will help children develop skills in voice projection, movement, improvisation, singing, acting and devised theatre (play and story creation). Very ensemble-based, the camps encourage students to work as a creative team while discovering their theatrical talents and self-confidence, benefitting them both on and off stage.

Meet the Teachers
Alyssa Latimer
Alyssa has been a Sylvan Lake Theatre actor, storyteller and runs the annual Creative Kids summer drama camps. She is the drama teacher at HJ Cody school, and director of their annual productions. Alyssa has combined bachelor’s degrees in fine arts and education with specialties in clown, theatre for young audiences (TYA), and stage directing. Giving children an avenue to explore their passions is a crucial element in her career as both a theatre artist and an educator.
Katherine Orsten
Katherine is an award-winning playwright, director, and performer, who grew up in Sylvan Lake, studied theatre in Red Deer and Toronto, with a focus on the creation of new theatre "from scratch, with ingredients you probably have around the house". Their favorite projects are plays that are written locally, cast locally, and performed locally. Katherine is an ongoing instructor/dramaturg with Sylvan Lake Theatre’s ACT UP and Write it! programs teaching devised theatre to actors and guiding playwrights to finished scripts. Passionate about supporting early-career and community-based playwrights they serve as the program lead for Red Deer Player’s Breaking Ground Playwriting Intensive.
Jordan Galloway
Since completing their Bachelor of Education, Jordan has been working full-time as a teacher. Additional education includes an applied Bachelor of Motion Picture Arts (Acting) and a diploma in Theatre Performance and Creation. While busy acting and composing for theatre and film Jordan also taught music and performed with symphonic bands, jazz band, rock bands, choirs, and musicals. Competent musically on piano, guitar, bass, percussion, saxophone, and voice Jordan loves dabbling on any instrument they can get their hands on. Also, a playwright, Jordan’s plays were featured in Sylvan Lake Theatre’s Ten-Minute New Play Festival (2026) and Red Deer Players Breaking Cover Series (2024).
